Hydrogen peroxide fogging machine hire: the evidence behind the claim
Every fogging supplier claims a kill rate. Very few will show you where the number came from. This is ours, with the studies named, because an unevidenced claim is worth nothing in a risk assessment.
In short
Hydrogen peroxide fogging is used because it is evidenced: 6-log reduction of Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores from a single ten-minute fog, over 5-log reduction of M. tuberculosis across an 80m³ laboratory, 5.1 log₁₀ reduction of C. difficile spores in hospital isolation rooms under heavy soiling, and decomposition to water and oxygen with no residue.

What the sporicidal testing shows
Independent testing of the hydrogen peroxide chemistry we supply recorded a 6-log reduction of Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores — the standard biological indicator for sterilisation processes — from a single ten-minute fog.
Hydrogen peroxide levels were back down to minimum detectable within 60 minutes of that cycle, which is what makes same-shift handback realistic.
What about tuberculosis and hospital pathogens?
Laboratory work recorded more than 5-log₁₀ reduction of Mycobacterium tuberculosis throughout an 80m³ BSL3 laboratory. Hospital studies recorded 5.1 log₁₀ reduction of Clostridioides difficile spores in isolation rooms even under heavy soiling.
Published hospital research has also associated hydrogen peroxide vapour decontamination with a 64% reduction in the risk of acquiring multidrug-resistant organisms compared with standard manual cleaning.
- Up to 99.9999% (6-log) reduction of bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores
- Over 4-log reduction demonstrated against norovirus surrogates and adenovirus
- No residue, no waste stream — decomposes to water and oxygen
Why hydrogen peroxide rather than formaldehyde?
Formaldehyde was reclassified as carcinogenic to humans by IARC in 2004 and its use as a fumigant has been progressively abandoned since. It is effective, but it brings a carcinogen, long aeration times and a disposal problem into your building.
Dry mist hydrogen peroxide achieves comparable outcomes on the organisms that matter, in minutes rather than hours, and leaves water and oxygen behind.
What should you ask any supplier claiming 99.9999%?
Which organism, at what log reduction, at what dose, in what room volume, tested by whom. If the answer is a marketing page rather than a study, treat the claim as decoration.
We state efficacy as up to 99.9999% deliberately, because the achieved reduction depends on organism, dose, contact time and room preparation — and anyone quoting a flat guaranteed number for every situation is overselling.
Frequently asked
- Is hydrogen peroxide fogging safe for staff?
- Rooms are fogged empty and closed with a documented safe re-entry time. In sporicidal testing, levels were down to minimum detectable within 60 minutes of a ten-minute fog.
- Does it bleach or damage surfaces?
- Dosing is set per room volume and the fog is dry. Sensitive materials are identified at survey and covered in the written method.
- Can it replace terminal cleaning?
- No. It follows cleaning. Its value is treating everything cleaning cannot reach, in the same few minutes.
- Where does the chemical come from?
- SanoChem is supplied on account with the lease, from £15 per litre + VAT with a 100 litre minimum order.
